 Valladolid History

Valladolid was first ruled by the Moors. The city during that time was merely a small village until the 10th century. The city experienced aggressive expansion during the 11th century that it became the capital of Spain in 1561.

 

Attractions in Valladolid

The tourist spots in Valladolid were mostly attributed to the city's development during the medieval era. The San Benito Church is a beautiful gothic church from the 16th century. The Plaza Mayor may look like a traditional square but the structures surrounding the area were also built during the 16th century. Also from the same century is the Royal Palace which is also the birthplace of King Philip II.

Going out in Valladolid

Valladolid is practically a city for young adults. This means the nightlife and activities during the day should be very entertaining. Pubs and bars near the Plaza Mayor are highly recommended. During the day, religious and cultural festivities are never lacking. The month of April is very interesting because of Valladolid International Film Festival (running since 1965) as well as Holy Week (Semana Santa).

Weather in Valladolid

Valladolid is considered a wet climate city because of its frequent rainfall compared to other cities in Spain. But rainy days are still considered light. The only challenge for tourists is that the extreme temperature during the winter season and high humidity during summer.
