History of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Santa Cruz is the capital of Tenerife Island and part of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. The city was originally the sole capital of Canary Islands and eventually shared this status with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from 1927. The first inhabitants of this site, the Anazos, have been found to have lived there from archeological remains over 2,000 years ago. Santa Cruz is historically one of the most important and busiest ports in the Atlantic Ocean.
Attractions of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
There are several museums and art galleries which are worth visiting in Santa Cruz such as the Centro de Arte La Recova or the Museo de Bellas Artes. The Castillo of San Juan is a 17th century fort where the African slave trade was taking place. Finally, one of the main buildings that characterise the skyline of the town is the Opera House, the Auditorio de Tenerife, an impressive two hectare structure right in front of the Ocean built by famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

Santa Cruz has many events not to be missed. There is the colourful February's carnival parade and the yearly Music Festival of the Canary Islands at the end of January. In other months of the year, there are many other things to enjoy from fabulous sandy beaches in Las Teresitas, a nearby location, to plenty of shopping offers and exciting nightlife.

Santa Cruz of Tenerife has a mild Subtropical climate all year round with ideal temperatures both in summer, which is dry and never too hot, and warm winter with temperatures between 15-20 degrees.
