 Malaga History

Malaga was established by the Phoenicians in 770BCE. The name of the city was derived from "Malaka" which means "salt". The city was also ruled by Muslim Arabs from 8th century until medieval times when the city became part of Spain.

The city's extensive historical background is only matched by its structures. The Moorish castles, built as early as 11th century stands tall within the city. The museum and birthplace of Picasso is also a must see for any tourist. The city's cathedral is also worth a visit as it features traditional baroque architecture.

Malaga's extensive road network has made it easy for travelers to visit nearby towns. The greater Malaga area is also home of some impressive structures such as the Castillo Sohail in Fuengirola and Iglesia de San Sebastián in Alhaurín de la Torre. Car rentals and even bike rentals can be a good way for travel to various places in Malaga.

Beaches in Malaga

The most popular beach in Malaga is La Malagueta. Located near the city center, the beach can be a bit populated but still gorgeous and perfect for sunbathing. Walking or biking east in the shore will reveal smaller and quieter beaches of Malaga.

Weather in Malaga

Malaga's popularity as a beach destination is also due to its weather. Aside from offering 300 days of sunshine, the city is also the warmest city during winters. During summer, the temperature from the sun is not so high due to the cooling winds from the Mediterranean.
