Flights to Girona
Girona (also spelled Gerona) is the capital of the Catalonia province. Located in the north east of Spain, it is one of the first cities you will encounter if travelling from the French Pyrenees. The city has a very particular charm and, although it is a tourist destination, Girona is not heavily relying on visitors’ presence but is much alive all year round.
Girona Airport
The airport of Girona is known as Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) or Barcelona Girona Airport. It is located 12 km away from Girona and is able to serve many of the Spanish cities on the Costa Brava such as Sitges, Tossa de Mar and Tarragona. Although the airport is commonly associated by travellers as one of Barcelona airports, it is almost 100km away from Barcelona. Nonetheless, it is very well connected with direct bus shuttles which are scheduled in connection with flight departures and arrivals, and take up to 1 hour and 15 min journey. Otherwise, trains are also available with the RENFE train line company from Barcelona Sants to the Airport via Girona city. Many buses are also running between the airport and Girona town centre at very low fares. Girona Airport serves several low cost companies including Ryanair, CentralWings, BMI Airways and Spanair which are connecting many European cities (London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Frankfurt, Dublin and Stockholm among others). For this reason it is a very convenient cheap flight destination for tourists visiting the coast of Spain and has become, thanks to Ryanair flights in particular, an airport hub in Europe.
