Holidays in Valencia


The third largest city in Spain, Valencia is the capital of the Autonomous Community of Valencia. Parts of the city date from Roman and Arabic times. The Cathedral of Valencia was finished in the 15th century  and the walls Serrano and Quart are part of a former wall dating from the 15th century which surrounded the city. The Central Market in Valencia is one of the largest markets in Europe. The architecture style you can admire in Valencia are: Gothic which can be seen in the details of the Gothic Basilica. The main railway station is built in modernisme (which is Spanish Art Nouveau).

Sightseeing in Valencia

For a day out in Valencia go to Placa de l’Ajuntament (Town Hall Square). The city’s major festival Las Fallas is held here.

La Placa de la Verge is a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. For a day out in the middle of nature visit Turia garden, watch the children playing on the playground and cool by the fountain.

Valencia’s port is the biggest port on the west side of the Mediterranean.

 

Weather in Valencia

Valencia has a mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. The coldest month is January (average temperature is 13-14 degrees C) and the hottest month is August (26-32 degrees Celsius).

Festivals in Valencia

The most famous festival in Valencia is Las Fallas, held in March and it celebrates the local dish – paella -, local pottery and traditional dresses.

Nearby Valencia, every August there is a messy festival – La Tomatina – which is an annual fight with tomatoes. From the sports point of view Valencia is the home of Valencia CF football team (winner of Spanish league in 2002 and 2004) and it is the location for F1 European Grand Prix.
