History

The Moors founded Murcia back in 825 AD, at that time Murcia was still called Mursiya. The Moorish city was then known as the Kingdom of Murcia and it became independent after Omayadd Caliphade of Cordoba fell in the 11th century. Up to this day, you could still feel the influence of the Moors in Murcia.

Attractions

Visit the Cathedral de Santa Maria. It is the most important of all the monuments in Murcia. Just north of it you’ll find the Bishop’s Palace of the Palacio Episcopal. Plaza Cardenal Belluga is the town center where you’ll get to mingle and interact with lots of people and just enjoy taking pictures.

The Calle de la Traperia is a pedestrian shopping area in Murcia where you’ll find several shops just along the streets with cheap prices.

Going Out

In Murcia, you’d really enjoy their delicious foods. One of the traditions here is to go out and eat tapas. In fact, going out for tapas is one of the best ways to experience Murcia and you’ll find several bars and restaurants that offer tapas. If you’re up for some bar hopping then check out La Bulla, Icaro, Hermanos Rubios, Josepe and Drexco bars.

Beaches

Tourists prefer Murcia because of its beaches along Costa Calida. Murcia is not as well known as other Spanish regions and for this reason the beaches in the Murcia region are not very crowded.
