Holidays in Mallorca


The name of the island in Catalan is Mallorca and this island is the bigger sister of Menorca, both situated in the Balearic Islands archipelago. Like all the Balearic islands, Majorca is a well-known touristic destination for tourists from the UK, Germany and Ireland. From ancient times, the island economy was based on olive cultivation, salt exploitation and wine. The island was propserous under the Caliphate of Cordoba starting with 902 BC, the Moors improved the agriculture in Majorca.

Near Palma de Majorca, the circular castle of Bellver is worth visiting. The castle was built in the 14th century and it used to be a military prison. An amazing construction to see in Palma de Majorca is La Seu Cathedral in Gothic style. For mountain lovers Majorca has the perfect spot: The Serra Tramuntana a mountain chain with the highest peak – Puig Major of 1,445 metres high.

Restaurants in Majorca

According to recent studies, there are 2,400 restaurants and bars in Majorca. Majorcan diet contain olives and almonds but despite the fact that it is a Mediterranean island, Majorca imports seafood. Traditional Majorcan food is sobrassada, arros brut (rice with saffron with chicken or pork and vegetables) and the sweet ensaimada.
