Costa Calida history

Costa Calida’s role in history is mainly on trade routes and gateways for conquerors. The coastline was used by the Roman Army in 209BC to conquer Cartagena. The Moors also used the coastline from 7th century to 13th century. After much of Spain was conquered, many towns covered by Costa Calida used the shoreline for trading.

Costa Calida Attractions

The beauty of Costa Calida is based on its size and unique natural setting. The shore is more than 250 kilometers as it extends from the northern part of Spain in El Mojon to the south in Aguilas. Aside from its size, Costa Calida enjoys a unique warmer climate which explains its name (translated as Warm Coast). Although most parts of Costa Calida offers scenic view of the ocean, La Manga, Cartagena and Mazarron are popular tourist destinations.

Beaches in Costa Calida

Most of the popular beaches in Costa Calida are located in the southern part of the country. Some of the beautiful beaches of Cartagena are Cala Cortina, Levante Beach and Islas Menores. In Mazarron, Playa de Bahia, Playa de Castellar and Playa Nares offer an unforgettable day at the beach. But the most popular tourist destination in Costa Calida is La Manga which is aggressively experiencing development.

The best way to enjoy Costa Calida is by visiting municipalities that used the coast as their main attraction. The towns in the southern Spain have developed their beaches while improving amenities of their hotels which also helped in improving its nightlife.

Costa Calida only experience an average of 40 days of rain annually. Temperature in the shores could reach 25ºC but no less than 18 ºC. With this temperature and weather, the Costa Calida is already considered an ideal summer destination.
