City Breaks in Madrid

History

Madrid was inhabited even during the prehistoric times and evidence of this can be found through excavated artifacts that date back to the Neolithic age. During the Middle Ages, it was Muhammad I who built a palace on the spot where the Palacio Real now stands. The palace and the surrounding areas were named “Majerit” and that name had evolved to “Madrid”.

Attractions

Check out Picasso’s different works of art in Madrid Art Galleries or check out Museo Nacional Del Prado for other famous artists’ works. If you want to have some fun, check out the two theme parks in Madrid- Parque Warner Bros and Parque de Attracions. There is an ongoing plan to put up an artificial beach in Madrid though but if you want the real thing then you should travel to Valencia as it’s the closest beach area, about 3 and a half hours away.

Going Out

Madrid is a city that never sleeps. It may need a bit of adjustment from your part because people in Spain party during the small hours. Don’t come for a nightout at 9 in the evening, instead arrive around 12! La Latina is a perfect place for the mature partygoers ages while Huertas bar is fit for all ages.

Weather

Madrid has Continental Mediterranean weather with a bit chilly winter because of its high altitude. Summers are warm here but not really hot although it rarely reaches 40 degrees Celsius as well.
